In 2001 I started clarkelane.com by adopting the persona of Clarke Lane. The project was an experiment in transparency, identity performance, process, and art practice. The site and the project provided a way for me to explore some important questions as both an artist and a person.

Over the past year, a lot has shifted. The persona of "Clarke Lane" and my actuality have slowly merged toward some kind of unity. Somewhere along the way, this site and project, as I conceptualized it in 2001, concluded. Yes, I've garnered some provisional answers to my foundational questions and, yes, I find that I'm at an impasse as to where this particular project might go. I know that this site no longer represents me as I understand myself. I know it's time to change.

I'm feeling an enormous shift in my life. It's time for me to sort the content I've generated over the last seven years, embracing that which is generative and shedding that which is holding me back. Yes, it's a metaphor for a lot of things. Life rolls on.

Clarkelane.com may return some day. For now, you can visit me at petehocking.com.
